Telling the human story

Our collection includes personal items that made their way to New Zealand in the suitcases of refugees and survivors. From yellow stars and identity documents to handwritten letters, drawings, and cherished family photographs, these are not just historical artefacts – they are clues to the past that help us understand the real human experiences of the Holocaust.

By preserving these items, the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand ensures that the stories of those who settled in New Zealand are never forgotten, providing a direct connection between the events in Europe and our lives here today.
