Shaping the future through history

The Holocaust is a watershed event in human history, challenging our perceptions of humanity, social responsibility, and justice. At the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand, we believe that teaching this history is not just about recounting the past – it is about preparing future generations to identify and counter hatred.

Our educational framework connects global events to local stories of resilience. Here in Aotearoa New Zealand, survivors of the Holocaust built fruitful, prosperous lives, proving that even out of the deepest adversity, happiness and contribution can be found. We invite you to use our resources to help your students explore these lessons of humanity, ensuring that the history we remember becomes the future we protect.

Empowering teachers for 2027 and beyond

Starting in January 2027, Holocaust education will be part of the Year 10 Social Sciences curriculum across Aotearoa New Zealand.

We know that teaching this complex history requires confidence, sensitivity, and accurate historical grounding. The Holocaust Centre of New Zealand is here to walk alongside you every step of the way. From hosting international pedagogy experts to offering tailored professional learning workshops, hands-on guidance, and classroom-tested strategies, we are committed to equipping you with the tools to deliver engaging, age-appropriate, and transformative learning experiences.
